"Charlie Chaplin" figure was designed to hold non safety
matches, which were struck on the outside to ignite them. It was
made in Germany around 1920 and has an embossed number on the rear
"4577".
"Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin Jr" (16th April 1889 to 25th
December 1977) was an actor, composer and director who was born in
Walworth, London. He is widely considered to be one of the most
creative and influential people during the silent film period and he
was in the entertainment business for nearly 70 years.
He is best known for his vagrant character with the funny walk from
the film "The Tramp", where he wears a tight jacket,
baggy trousers, bowler hat, a toothbrush moustache and he walks with
a bamboo cane. In France, Spain and Italy he was known as "Charlot".
His early films normally portrayed him as a man with great pathos
and sentimentality.To view other images
