The "Bristol Bulldog" was a single seat fighter designed in
the 1920's by "Frank Barnwell" and manufactured by the
"Bristol Aeroplane Company", who produced over 300 of the
biplanes. It was 25 feet long, had a wingspan of 34 feet, a maximum
speed of 178 mph and had two "Vickers" submachine guns. It
was probably the most famous aircraft produced during the wars for
the "Royal Air Force", who replaced it in the late 1930's
with the "Hawker Hurricane" and the "Supermarine Spitfire".
"Group Captain Sir Douglas Bader" (1910-1982) lost both of
his legs in his Bulldog while he was performing unauthorized aerial
acrobatics. To see another photo of this item, please click
