Comments: "Martins
Bank" had its origins in the sixteenth century, in 1918 is was
brought by the "Bank of Liverpool" and was called the
"Bank of Liverpool and Martins Ltd", which was simplified down
to "Martins Bank Ltd" in 1928 and in 1969 it was acquired by
"Barclays Bank Ltd" and the name disappeared from the high
street. The bank's logo was the grasshopper taken from the family
crest of its founder "Sir Thomas Gresham".
This all metal bank was made for the "Martins Bank Limited"
around 1930. It has slots for "Six Pence", "Three Pence",
"Penny or Half Crown" , "Small Coins Extra" and
"Shilling" coins with a cumulative measure below each slot
to show you how many of each coin you have in the bank. This bank
comes with a key, which is very unusual. When the bank is unlocked
the base slides out and it bears the patent number "168,828"
and "June 11.1921", the hole is for inserting bank notes. The
bank is numbered "#62660" on the name plate on the top.
