Comments: The lid shows the
famous "Liberty Bell" in the painting by "J.L.G. Ferris"
titled "The Liberty Bell's First Note".
The bell is 12 foot in circumference, it weighs 2055 lbs, it was
cast in 1752 in London and it is located in Philadelphia. It has
great historical significance being associated with the "American
Revolutionary War" and it is now thought of as an icon of
liberty and justice. The bell was dropped in 1754 when it was being
installed and a crack appeared; it was repaired by "Pass and
Stow", a second crack appeared about 1846 and it was repaired
and in 1902 it was involved in a train crash! It is probably
very lucky that the "Whitechapel Bell Foundry" established
around 1670; near to where I attended school, didn't issue
a warranty with the bell, as they are still in business today!
The sides show eight famous paintings:
"The Pilgrims going to church 1620 by G.H. Boughton".
"Washington and Rochambeau at Mt. Vernon 1781 by Ward Dunsmore".
"Paul Revere's ride 1775 by J.B. Beale".
"The discovery of the Columbia River 1790 by W.J. Aylward".
"The Adoption of the Constitution 1787 by J.B. Stearns".
"Discovery of gold in California 1848 by J.B. Beale".
"The attack on the supply wagon 1875 by Frederic Remington".
"Race between the Natchez and the Eclipse 1830 by J.B. Beale".
