Comments: This interesting patriotic tin features the "Statue of Liberty" on the lift off lid and was manufactured in the 1930's for "Loose-Wiles biscuit Co." to hold 2lb 8oz of their assorted biscuits.
The statue was a gift from France in 1886 to commemorate the "Centenary of the American Declaration of Independence", it was designed by "Frédéric Bartholdi" and the internal structure was engineered by "Alexandre Gustave Eiffel"; who in 1887-1889 designed the famous tower in Paris! The 151 foot 1 inch statue is composed of 200,000 pounds of copper sheeting over an steel frame and it stands on top of a 154 foot base on Liberty Island in New York Harbor.
The eight sides of the tin depict "Signing of the Constitution" 1787, "Pioneers moving westward" early 1800's, "The meeting of the railroads" 1869, "Daniel Boone in Kentucky" 1775-1783, "DeWitt Clinton opening the Erie Canal" 1825,"Lewis and Clark Expedition" 1804 -1806, "Early steamboats on the Mississippi" early 1800's and "The Gold Rush of 1849".
