Comments: "Robert Burns"
(1759-1796) was a Scottish poet and a lyricist, and he is considered
to be a pioneer of the "Romantic Movement". "Rabbie Burns"
as he is also known, is regarded as the Scottish national
poet and a cultural icon, he also collected and revised old Scottish
folk songs. His best known works are "Auld
Lang Syne", "A
Red, Red Rose", "The
Battle of Sherramuir", "To
a Louse", "Scots
Wha Hae" "To
a Mouse" and "A
Man's A Man for A' That".
The 25th January is "Burns Hight", a celebration that begins
with the "Selkirk Grace", followed by the piping and the
cutting of the haggis, the "Address to a haggis" is read and
it is then eaten by the guests, followed by the "Immortal Memory"
and the whole event is concluded by the singing of "Auld Lang
Syne".
The illustration on the lid is taken from the original portrait by
"Alexander Naismith" painted in 1787. The sides show highly
detailed scenes of "Auld Galloway Kirk", "Auld Brig O'
Doon", "The Auld Brig, Ayr", "Burn's Monument, banks
of Doon", "Burn's Cottage, Alloway, Ayr", "Interior of
Burn's Cottage" and "Burn's Monument, Kilmarnock".
A great tin in good condition with a few minor dents and scuffs. The
cottage picture has some original varnish drips on it from when it
