Comments: This was the first set
of books that "Huntley, Boorne and Stephens" produced for
"Huntley and Palmer" in 1900. This tin has a simulated leather
belt and a buckle holding the volumes together, along with a pull
tag ( bookmark) on the lid to facilitate the opening of the tin. The
first and last volumes play a pun on the word "Reading", the
place where the biscuits were made and the visual skill of
interpreting written text. Two other volumes are titled
"Biscuits" and "Cakes". They made 50,000 of this biscuit
tin. The three other tins in this series with the same form, but
different decoration, were "Literature" 1901, "Waverley"
1903 and "Dickens" 1911.
Compare to h2963 "Waverley" and h3162 "Literature".
