Comments: This interesting toffee tin is aptly titled "Smoking the Pipe of peace".
The peace pipe, medicine pipe or calumet has always been used by Native Americans as a token of peace. However it had other ceremonial uses, as the stem of the pipe represents the male principle and the animal world, the bowl the female principle and the plant world. Tobacco was considered by many tribes to be sacred and was traditionally smoked in the pipe. A sign of respect was to blow the smoke into someone's face!
