This very rare biscuit tin was produced for "Peek Frean" in 1931. It is complete with all eleven pieces; including the rules, and totally all original. There is a colourful paper label going around the circumference of the tin illustrated with fairground scenes and a large paper label on the lid depicting a "Cocoanut Shies", both are in very good condition.
"Coconut shy" is a traditional English funfair game where you throw wooden balls at coconuts mounted on posts; typically very tightly lodged, and you win the coconut if you knock it off on to the ground. In the nineteenth century a cocoanut; the old fashioned spelling, would have been considered an exotic prize and "shy" is a colloquial term for "to throw". "Cocoanut shies" are mentioned in "H.G. Well's" book "The Invisible Man" first published in 1898.
