Comments: Now here is an
interesting tin, the lid lifts off and it can be mounted on the wall
like a framed picture utilizing the hanging ring on the rear of the
lid! The charming illustration is brightly coloured with lots of
detail and is based on the poem by Arthur Brooke. The poem, titled
"The Tragical History of Romeus and Juliet" was written in
1562 and it was later dramatized by William Shakespeare, however the
poem was not original it originates from a tale written earlier in
1476. The well known tale is a tragedy and tells the story of two
young "star-cross'd lovers".
The biscuit tin was manufactured by "Barringer, Wallis and
Manners" for "M&D" in 1928, however the tin looks a lot
earlier; "McVitie & Price" produced two earlier variations on
this theme around 1910.
