Comments: This stunning and
highly detailed commemorative mustard tin was produced by "Keen,
Robinson & Co. Ltd" around 1900. The paper label inside the lid
proclaims that "Keen's" had been making genuine fine mustard
since 1742. The lid has a picture of "Field Marshall Lord
Roberts" and the panels show "Lord Roberts entering
Bloemfontein", "Bringing up the Guns", "The Outposts"
and "Lord Roberts' entertainment of the Military Attaches at
Pretoria".
The "Boer War" was fought from 11th October 1899 until 31st
May 1902 between Britain and the two independent Boer
colonies of the Orange Free State and the Transvaal. It is also
known as the "Second Boer War", the "South African War",
"Boereoolog" and "Tweede Vryheidsoorlog".
This great tin was owned by the famous Welsh actor "Kenneth
Griffith"(1921-2006), a controversial historian of the "Boer
War" and a well known supporter of the Afrikaners in South
Africa. Great provenance! To view other images of this item, please click here:
