Comments: This unusual
"Macfarlane Lang" biscuit tin consists of two metal cylinders
that push together to form a closed container to hold the biscuits.
When the biscuits had been consumed the tin was designed to serve as
a bank and has a slot on the front to post your loose change. The
design is very similar to the smaller tins produced earlier by
"Bryant & May" to hold matches.
The cipher on the tin was changed to "ER"; Edward Rex, from
the original design "VR"; Victoria Regina, due to the death
of Queen Victoria in 1901 and the subsequent accession of King
Edward VII to the throne. The front of the tin has the "Inland
Letters" rate and the rear has the "Rates of Postage for
Inland Parcels", you could send a 10 lb parcel anywhere in the
UK for 5p or about 3 cents US! The tin bears the registration number
370008.
