Comments: This rare decorative
tin was made to store "Riz La" cigarette papers on the shop
counter, having four compartments in the rear and being weighted. It
was made by the well known French company "de Andreis" of
Marseille around 1925 for the English speaking market. It has the
remnants of an original paper label on the top of the tin. The red
pierrot first appeared in the company's adverts in 1926.
The company was established by "Pierre LaCroix" in 1532 in
Angouleme, France, in 1860 the recipe for cigarette rolling papers
was perfected, the name comes from riz ( they are made form rice,
the French is riz) and la+ (an abbreviation of the family name
Lacroix) and in 1954 the company became "Rizla+".
The tin proclaims "Perfection & Economy", "The papers with
the world's largest sale", "Smokers, you MAY use any tobacco
you like. But you MUST use Riz La" and "Pure strong tasteless
and perfectly gummed".
