Julius Maggi developed a recipe formula for adding extra flavour to
meals in 1863; he was born in 1846 in Switzerland. He was asked to
solve the problem of working women who had less time available to
prepare tasty meals and he came up with two instant soups, pea and
bean. These were very popular and successful and by 1900 the company
was also manufacturing sauces, flavourings and bouillon cubes.
