Comments: This piece of
pre-scored cardboard was given away around 1942 with "Kellogg's
PEP", a whole-wheat flake cereal. There were seven different
models in the set and they were described as "..an authentic
scale model suitable for silhouette identification..". On the
rear it states "Buy U.S. War Bonds and Stamps".
The "Grumann F6F Hellcat" was described as a single seat
fighter with a powerful air cooled engine and the specifications
were undisclosed, except that it was better than a "Wildcat".
Its loaded weight was 12,600 lbs, span of 42' 10", 33' 7" long,
maximum speed of 380 mph and it had an assortment of armaments. It
proved to be the most successful aircraft in naval history and
12,275 were built between 1942 and 1945.
